Help & support
System requirements, answers to common questions and troubleshooting - plus a real engineer at the end of an email if you need more.
Small, native and happy on modest hardware
Operating system
Windows 10 or Windows 11. The Microsoft Store build targets Windows 11 (build 22000+); local builds run on Windows 10/11.
Memory & disk
Designed to stay light - a small RAM footprint and roughly 50–100MB of disk space for the install.
GPU features
GPU usage, VRAM and engine breakdowns work on modern GPUs. Temperature display depends on your hardware reporting it.
Installation
Install from the Microsoft Store (no admin ceremony), or build from source with the .NET SDK. .NET is bundled with the Store build.
The things everyone asks us
What is Resource Watchtower?
A lightweight, native Windows desktop app that monitors CPU, GPU, memory, disk, network and processes in real time - with history logging, pop-out charts and system tray integration.
Does it send my data anywhere?
No. Everything runs locally on your machine - monitoring, history and logging. Nothing is uploaded, no accounts required, no telemetry back to us.
How do I change the language?
Press F3 to cycle languages on the fly, or pick one in Settings. Five languages are supported: English (UK), Welsh, English (US), French and German.
How do I log and export resource data?
Enable the logging feature in Settings to record system resources over time, then export the data to CSV for analysis in your favourite tool.
What is LLM Mode?
When local AI tools - Ollama, LM Studio or Unsloth Studio - are actively using your GPU, Watchtower highlights an "LLM Mode Active" indicator and shows which app is running.
How do pop-out windows work?
Open the pop-out icon on any chart to detach it into its own window - with an always-on-top option, and position/size remembered between sessions.
Can it start with Windows?
Yes - a startup task can launch Watchtower when you log in, so it's always watching from the system tray. Manage it from Settings → System Tray.
Why don't I see GPU temperature?
Temperature is shown where your GPU hardware and drivers report it. On machines without temperature telemetry, usage and VRAM monitoring still work fully.
Quick fixes for the usual suspects
Tray icon missing?
Check the System Tray tab in Settings - the tray icon option lives there. If the icon is hidden, expand the Windows tray overflow (the ^ arrow) and drag Watchtower into place.
A chart looks flat or blank
GPU metrics are always collected in the background - if a chart ever looks blank after switching views, a restart of the app refreshes it. History settings control how far back charts reach.
Keep it current
We ship updates regularly through the Microsoft Store - including new hardware support and fixes. Enable automatic Store updates so you always have the latest build.
