An app is not just for consumers

Your office runs on Windows. Your field staff use Android. Your MD has an iPhone. One app covers them all.

Our Cylch framework lets us build native apps for iOS, Android, Windows and macOS, plus the web, from a single codebase. You pay for one product, maintain one product and ship updates everywhere at once.

The blind spot

You already have the data. It is just stuck on paper losing its value and accuracy.

None of this is a people problem. It is an app-shaped gap, and closing it is how growing businesses win back hours every week. Drag to see the difference.

What is slowing your team down?

The most valuable app in your business might be the one your customers never see. Pick the closest match.

What would you like an app to help with?
Sales on the move

Leads that do not get lost.

Capture names, notes and photos while the conversation is fresh. A custom app can connect to your CRM, so your team can follow up without re-keying anything.

  • Capture leads, notes and photos on the spot
  • Sync with your CRM or other systems
  • Works offline and catches up when connected

When your customers do need an app…

Loyalty, bookings, engagement and repeat sales. We design consumer apps that people actually keep on their home screen.

The B.E.N. wellbeing app turned more than 30 years of educational expertise into an app teenagers want to open, on iOS and Android from one codebase, with no personal data stored.

Common questions

Will someone try to sell to me on the call?add

No. An engineer will answer your questions and help you work out what is possible. There is no hard sell.

Is your framework a web-based app masquerading as a native platform for iPhone, Android and Windows?add

No. We build one codebase in C# that runs natively on iOS, Android, Windows and macOS, and it takes full advantage of each platform's capabilities and features - no compromises.

Our engineers have worked across all of these platforms individually over many years, so they understand the unique requirements of each one and how to get the best performance out of it.

Do I have to have a desktop app if I only want a mobile app?add

No. You do not need a desktop app if you only want a mobile app; you can have a fully functional mobile app without a separate desktop application. The choice is yours, but if you choose Android or iOS we always advise you to have both platforms to reach the widest audience.

Do I have to have a mobile and/or desktop app if I only want a web app?add

No. A "web app only" approach is perfectly valid for users who only access your services through a web browser, without the need for mobile or desktop apps. The choice is yours, but if you do choose mobile apps, we always advise you to have both Android and iOS to reach the widest audience.

Can a business app work without signal?add

Yes. Our Cylch Framework is pre-built to capture data offline and sync automatically when a connection returns, so your team can carry on working in areas with poor or no connectivity. This feature has been hardened in real-world use to be reliable and robust.

How much does a business app cost?add

It depends on scope. After a free, no-obligation Discovery conversation we will give you a rough estimate of costs, covering at least four values: a low estimate, a high estimate, an estimated cost for the Consultancy stage, and a contingency to keep aside for unexpected issues or a "change of scope" request from your team during development.

If you proceed with the Consultancy stage, we will charge you for the admin time it takes our engineers to liaise with you, answer your questions and gather any data we need. The work we produce is yours to keep.

How will you invoice me?add

Discovery is free of charge. If you choose to proceed with the Consultancy stage, we will invoice you for the admin time it takes our engineers to liaise with you, answer your questions and gather any necessary data, so you only pay for the work done. In most cases we can roll the Consultancy fee into the first agreed milestone payment, which is paid upfront to secure your place in our development schedule.

If you proceed to the development stage, we will require an initial deposit to secure your development slots and begin a contract with us. We will assign a project manager to oversee progress and act as your main point of contact throughout the project, keeping everything clear and accountable on both sides.

Payments then continue on a monthly basis or via milestones, whichever suits your type of project. For long-term projects with continuous development, we may agree to a monthly retainer, giving you the freedom to make as many adjustments as you like, so long as you have the budget to accommodate them.

Because we pause work until disputes are resolved, and because part or full payment is taken upfront to secure your slots, we will refund any remaining budget minus the administrative work left to close your project.

How do you keep track of the project's progress?add

We use project management tools and regular update meetings to track progress, so you have visibility of tasks, milestones and timelines, and you are always informed about the status of your project.

Your project manager is your main point of contact for questions and concerns, and if required they can work with your own project manager so tasks run smoothly and nothing is forgotten or lost in the chain of tasks.

We can work in Waterfall or Agile, or a blend of the two, depending on what suits your team's experience of working with outside teams. Please note that we record everything - including delays on your side as well as ours - which could incur additional costs or adjustments to the project timeline and budget.

If you would rather not be involved in day-to-day tracking, we can provide summarised updates at agreed intervals, so you stay informed without being overwhelmed by detail.

How are project milestones delivered?add

In an agile process, requests can change over time, and what felt like the right choice in the specification may need adjusting when a milestone is delivered for sign-off and seen in reality. That is why we always suggest keeping a contingency budget for unexpected changes.

During the specification stage we pencil in an ideal release date. Between then and the start of build, we create specific sign-off milestones that highlight features or difficult parts of the project that need your sign-off before we continue, because they may have a bearing on the rest of the project. We call these "soft deadlines": they may adjust slightly depending on progress and your feedback or changes to scope. Your final release date becomes "hardened" as more soft dates are completed and confidence in delivery grows.

If you already have a hard delivery date that cannot move, we will establish that in the Discovery stage. It changes how we project-manage the development cycle, with stricter requirements on both sides and a list of "must have" features to complete, leaving little chance of re-design. If a post-completion stage is agreed, we can implement any "nice to have" features after going live, so long as budget remains or is added to.

Who owns the project?add

On completion of the project you own the rights to access the code and take it to another team - though that has very rarely happened, as clients tend to stay with us long term.

This includes all assets, resources, code and associated material we used in developing your app, including the Cylch Framework modules used in your project.

If you end the agreement early, before completion, the Cylch and hayman.dev assets, resources, code and associated material we used will not be released for use with another team - only the code created for your project.

If a dispute arises during the project, our project manager will halt development immediately until it is resolved. If this becomes a prolonged process, you may lose the development slots we assigned to you, and we will need to reschedule your milestones and release dates. This prevents either side from wasting investment. It has never happened, but we cover it just in case.

How big is your team?add

Our core team consists of project managers, senior, mid-level and junior developers, with a range of freelance UI/UX associates.

We also have a pool of talented, trusted freelance software engineers and project managers we can bring into projects when required. They have worked with us for many years and are trained to the same standards as our core team, so the quality of work is the same. Our industry is leaning this way: experienced people have learned that burnout is not a requirement of the job, and remote working gives them a better life-to-work balance, which produces better output.

If you need a larger team, or more safety in numbers, we can include one of our Trusted Partners to collaborate with us full-time or on specific tasks. We highly recommend Mohunky, who we have worked with for over 15 years, and Ralph Media, for the last 5 years.

Where are you based?add

Our main headquarters is in Talbot Green, South Wales, near Llantrisant.

Our core team are UK-based staff, with some colleagues in various EU locations.

All data is handled under GDPR and we are registered with the UK ICO.

We are fully insured with professional indemnity and public liability cover, and we run secure networks and VPNs following security best practices.

If required, we can work in strict ISO environments with dedicated hardware, and under Cyber Essentials Plus conditions. Please mention this during the Discovery stage so we can adjust the project specifics, costs and who is assigned to your team.

We are a multi-lingual, multi-cultural business, and we build that experience into our products.

OK, I made it this far. What are your costs?add

It really depends on how many of us you want working on your project, how complex it is, and whether your app needs a "hard release date", where we block out development slots over a period of time, or a "flexible" delivery schedule.

As a rule of thumb, consider what it costs to hire your existing employees each month: the more you hire, the more it costs. It is not quite that simple, though. Costs are reduced by not having a full-time project manager or a senior developer on your project when tasks can go to a mid-level or junior developer, and without the tax and employee cost benefits that come with permanent staff.

There are ways to reduce costs below "employee" rates. Our Cylch Framework is an example of how we get to market faster, which saves on project costs.

Our experience lets us pick the right path and quickly guide you out of the "well, how do we do this?" maze of unknown decisions that can eat into time and budget.

All of this is outlined clearly in the Discovery and Consultancy stages.

Broadly, we have three rates: dedicated hours, which guarantee blocks of paid work for you and us; ad-hoc hours, where you ask and we find a slot for your work on demand as it becomes available; and flexible hours, which sit between the two. Dedicated hours are our cheapest, ad-hoc hours our most expensive, and flexible hours sit at a comfortable rate between the two and are the most common choice. A project may start with dedicated hours, drop into flexible hours later on, and move to ad-hoc towards the end - it really depends how we can tailor our services and staff to your project's needs.

If you need long-term support of six months or more, we can discount our dedicated hours further with a fixed contract, similar to a retainer, that can be either a full week or part of a week of hours dedicated to just you until you ask us to end. This has been a favourite of customers looking for long-term investment in their products.

I have this great idea I want you to invest in with me!add

No. We do not part-fund projects or take a percentage of sales from an idea you want us to develop. The market is mature enough that your idea has likely been done before, with an established user base you would need to beat with a USP they could easily implement for an audience they have already cultivated. This has only become more prevalent in the AI era, with AI-assisted product development.

We do, however, take on existing products that need to be re-engineered into stable, scalable platforms - rather than "one-prompt AI slop" that looks good until you want to add more features, or you realise it was leaking sensitive data…

What types of business or organisation do you work with?add

Private and public bodies: government, non-profits and charities. We work with a diverse range of organisations to help them develop and scale their digital products effectively.

Start-ups and micro-businesses with investors and stakeholders looking for early ROI through phased product releases - so long as you have a budget, we have the time. For businesses seeking further investment for additional phases, we can help direct your product roadmap from previous investment-style projects we have completed.

We have worked across a wide range of vertical markets, singly or across multiple markets for the same product. These have been one-off products, or long-term frameworks built to scale.

Challenge us - we will deliver.
